Building Bridges goes to London for the RIX 20 year celebration, May 2024

RIX, an inclusive research centre, based at University of East London held an event on Wednesday 1st May to celebrate 20 years.
The event also included a book launch for ‘Rights in Practice for People with a Learning Disability: Stories of Citizenship’, in which we have some stories included.
We also ran a lunchtime workshop for the people at the event, where they could think about which human rights they think are the most important to them.
We used picture cards that we made to help people talk about their lived experience of enjoying their human rights.
We travelled by train, underground and the Docklands Light Railway to get there!
Building Bridges Training are offering to produce one piece of easy read information by the end of March 2025. We are looking for ideas from groups, or individuals with a learning disability.
Building Bridges are working on a project about ‘reasonable adjustments’; and the small things mainstream services can do to make a big difference to people with a learning disability.
We are still working on these easy read documents, and they should be available soon. We are working closely with climate change activists to ensure our information is correct.
