Parents with a learning disability
Building Bridges co-delivers a one day training event for staff who work with parents with a learning disability. The co-trainers are parents with a learning disability who share their first hand experiences.
The training is suitable for staff who may work for children’s services and trusts and come into contact with parents with a learning disability.
We can work with a group of approx. 12 people.
Learning outcomes
By the end of the training event you will;
Understand the lived experience of people with a learning disability and autistic people.
Understand the difference between learning disability and learning difficulty.
Know relevant policy for supporting people with a learning disability, including parents.
Be aware of the impact on parenting for people with a learning disability.
Be aware of the impact on parenting for autistic people.
Become familiar with the Good Practice Guidance 2021.
Know how to deliver good support and accessible communication.
Learn some useful tools to use in the workplace.
Be aware of other resources and support available.
